Christmas Watch Out!

Watch out for!

Candle burning on mantlepiece at Christmas

Candles – don’t forget to put them out at night!

Hot pans can be grabbed by roaming toddlers - keep them in the middle of the hob

Hot saucepans – watch those handles if little ones are around – don’t have them in easy reach.

Knife and chicken on chopping board

Knives – keep away from the edge of worktops if you have toddlers in the house, and always point the blades down in the dishwasher.

Dog in kitchen - is yours a food grabber?

Pets – some visiting dogs may be greedier and sneakier than yours! I’ve been caught out by food grabbers – protect your turkey!

Also if you don’t want an emergency visit to the vet, keep foods such as chocolate and grapes out of the reach of dogs.

Crackers: choking hazard

Christmas crackers often have small parts which fly all over the place! Make sure they are not picked up by small children and put in their mouths – and equally check they haven’t gone into the food where they could easily be consumed by adults as well as children with the stuffing! Choking is a top concern in A&E departments over the Christmas period.
