Get prepared for a safe Christmas

Getting prepared for a safe Christmas!

Apart from the food, get yourself ready for an easy hygienic Christmas with some handy hints from the Hygiene Doctor.

  • Have enough kitchen roll for the Christmas period to not only mop up inevitable spillages, but also to clean down contaminated food preparation areas – this means you are not putting bacteria onto re-usable cloths and spreading around the kitchen.
  • Stack of clean tea towels so you can have a fresh one at each meal prep time.
  • Antibacterial spray to disinfect surfaces
  • A hand towel in the kitchen which is just that – not a tea towel – hand towels should be used just for hands!
  • Hand soap at all the sinks and wash basins
  • Food thermometer – there really is no better way to be sure your turkey is cooked.
  • Ask all guests in advance if they have any allergies to foods.
  • Have some basic first aid items to hand – plasters, antiseptic, anti-histamine tablets. If someone is allergic to food ask them to be sure to bring both their injectable adrenaline pens just to be on the safe side – and make sure you know how to use them.
